Karachi: Meat is an essential part of our diet, but overeating meat can also lead to many diseases and health problems.

Although no formal survey has been conducted, it has been observed that the number of patients suddenly increases more than usual immediately after Eid-ul-Adha.

Medical experts say that special care needs to be taken in eating meat on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. Meat is rich in protein and fat. Both of these are part of our body's basic nutritional needs, but too much of them in our diet can pose a number of health risks.

Most people who eat a lot of meat on the occasion of Baqaraid suffer from various ailments of teeth and gums. Eating too much meat, big or small, can cause heartburn. Some people suffer from constipation while many people suffer from diseases like diarrhea and cholera. All of this is the result of carelessness and recklessness in eating meat. The best way to avoid these diseases is to keep a balanced diet.

During Eid-ul-Adha, special arrangements are made for spicy and chicken meals as well as barbecue. Research has shown that spicy, fried and roasted meat is more harmful than meat boiled in water and cooked in less spices, and its excessive use can cause cancer. To keep the diet balanced, it is important to consume less red meat (especially beef and buffalo meat) not only on the occasion of Eid but also on normal days, while vegetables and fruits should be eaten along with it. They contain dietary fiber which is very useful in keeping the digestive system healthy.

People who suffer from liver, stomach, heart, joint pain, high blood pressure, uric acid excess or diabetes should take special care and eat very little meat on the occasion of Eid. On the advice of

According to an estimate, deep freezers worth more than Rs 2 billion have been sold in Pakistan on Eid-ul-Adha this year, meaning that a large number of dignitaries are eager to eat the sacrificial meat for a long time this year as well.

But meat freezing and storing experts say that even in deep freezers, the meat should be kept frozen for a maximum of 20 days because even in extreme cold, the meat gradually deteriorates. The biggest sign of meat spoilage is that it starts smelling like a dead rat, which is an indication that the meat has spoiled and now eating it would be like eating poison. However, if the meat is preserved with salt after boiling, it can be used in the freezer for a long time.

Even if you have the status and can afford to eat meat all year round, you should still reduce the consumption of red meat and instead give chicken, fish and vegetables an equal share in your diet.
